A study in the journal Child Development showed that children actually start to learn writing skills as early as age three.  Childhood education researchers have found associations between writing skill development in elementary school and overall academic performance.  

Preschoolers – Grades Pre-K (Ages 3–4 years)

Younger Grade-Schoolers – Grade K, 1-2 (Ages 5 -7)

Older Grade-Schoolers –Grades 3-5 (Ages 8–10)

Middle-Schoolers– Grades 6-8 (Ages 11-13)

High-Schoolers – Grade 9-12 (Ages 14-18)
