- Elena was a student with dyslexia. In 2012, after understanding the need for support with dyslexia, Dr. Allen joined the Dyslexia Tutoring Program, took the mandatory training (2012), had Elena assessed and enrolled, and became her tutor.
- Before the above, teaching/tutoring services were provided for Elena beginning the latter half of the 4th through the 5th grades while she attended Dallas F. Nicholas Senior Elementary School. It continued during her enrollment at Mount Royal Elementary/Middle School (6th through 8th grades), and onward through the 9th (Dunbar High School). During the 10th grade first quarter, Elena elected not to avail of the services.
- Dr. Allen attended Parent-Teacher’s meetings, Back-To-School Nights, IEP (Individualized Education Program), met with school counselors and administrators, provided homework support, and collected/reviewed Elena’s report cards.
- In 2014 MJALLEN MINISTRIES, LLC funded a laptop to help her advance her education. Elena graduated from Franklin Senior High School, Class of 2020 (June 15). Elena has a compassionate heart for people and aspires to go into law enforcement. Her long-range goal is to become an FBI Agent.
- At the end of Elena’s senior year, during Decision Day, students were asked to write what their plans were after graduating from high school. In an Instagram post by Elena she notably recognized sent to Dr. Allen on May 10, 2020. as one who was instrumental in helping her to face and overcome academic challenges.
