- Bria P. was a 6th-grade student with Dyslexia from Tunbridge Public Charter School. After being on the waiting for several years, in November 2015, she was evaluated and accepted to the Dyslexia Tutoring Program (DTP). Bria had previously been held back in the 3rd grade and was on an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and had some moderate challenges with specific course work areas.
- During the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades (2015-2018), Bria attended the DTP. She improved remarkably in the following areas, the processing of written assignments, grasping new concepts, retaining learned material, verbal comprehension, reading comprehension, perceptual reasoning, and working memory. Marked improvements were made in writing and project management skills.
- After one year with the DTP, in November 2016, MJAllen Ministries, LLC, funded a laptop and printer to help further Bria advance her education. In Bria’s 7th grade (3rd quarter), Dr. Allen conducted an assessment on Bria’s strengths and weaknesses in English Language Arts, Math, and Science and gave parents recommendations on how Bria could improve during the 4th quarter. The discussion helped narrow down core challenges systemic to Bria’s low grades in Science, Math, and English Language Arts. Challenges were accountability, appealing for help/support, motivation, balancing priorities, and time management.
- Dr. Allen also collected copies of Bria’s report grades, IEP and attended an annual IEP meeting with the parent and school administrators during the 7th-grade year.
- Bria graduated on June 7, 2018 and began attending Carver Vocational Technical High school in the fall of 2018. During her 9th grade, notable overall improvements were observed. By the end of the 2nd quarter of the 10th grade, Bria had acquired greater independence and no longer needed DTP Services.
