RUSSELL B.

  • Russell B. was a 7th-grade student with academic challenges from Baltimore Collegiate Schools for Boys. In February 2016, he was evaluated and accepted to the Dyslexia Tutoring Program (DTP).
  • In the 7th grade, Russell struggled with reading comprehension, finding information from text, writing essays, etc. He was able to read most material presented but not at age/grade level. His performance was slightly below average in rate and average in fluency and comprehension.
  • In February 2017, Russell was rescreened by the DTP to assist the tutor in planning for further tutoring sessions. He had made significant progress in the first year. Overall, his standard scores increased in almost all areas, and his overall rating was in the average range.
  • Dr. Allen collected Russell's report cards and held periodic brief meetings with his parent to provide updates; client reports were also given to parents.
  • According to the Baltimore Collegiate School for Boys grade system, Russell was eager to learn, but his grades during the 7th and 8th fluctuated between near mastery and mastery.
  • In English Language Arts (near mastery/mastery), Math (mastery), Social Studies (mastery to exceed mastery in some areas of studies), Science (required remediation), it was one of Russell's weakest subjects.
  • In September 2018, Russell was accepted into the 9th grade at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, and he continued to make demonstrative progress.
  • Russell continued with the DTP up to his 10th year (1st quarter 2018) while still at Cristo Rey, at which time the services were no longer required.
