- Shykeem F. was a 4th-grade student at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary/Middle School, with reading challenges. In September 2012, he was evaluated and accepted to the Dyslexia Tutoring Program. He was eager to learn and exhibited a respectful disposition.
- During his 5th-grade year with the DTP, even when sensitive family matters prevented regular attendance, he demonstrated resolve, self-motivation, and determination.
- Shykeem enjoyed the interactive learning/teaching style of Dr. Allen.
- Four milestones were his ability to improve his decoding skills, spelling, learning cursive writing, and writing his signature. Shykeem remained with the DTP up through May 2015.
